HomeCostly is funded by advertising, not by referral fees from tradespeople or contractors. That separation is the foundation of everything below.
No contractor, manufacturer, or advertiser is able to pay for placement in a cost guide, influence a calculator's figures, or review content before it's published. Advertising on HomeCostly is clearly marked and never appears inside editorial content itself.
Cost guides are researched using published trade pricing data, material cost indices, and, where available, aggregated real project data. Every guide states what it covers and, where relevant, what it doesn't.
Guides are reviewed at least twice a year, and calculators at least quarterly, by our editorial team. Reviews check whether figures still reflect current pricing and whether guidance is still accurate.
Content is written and reviewed by our editorial team, drawing on trade data and, for technical sections, guidance consistent with current UK and US building and safety standards. We don't publish guest content from parties with a commercial interest in the subject matter.
When we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change — see our corrections policy for the full process, or use our contact page to flag an issue.
