Read the scope first
A good renovation quote should make the work clear before the price. Check quantities, preparation, removal, access, finishing and the exact materials or specifications.
Look for exclusions
Provisional sums, allowances and exclusions can make two quotes look cheaper or more expensive than they really are. Ask the contractor to explain every significant allowance.
Compare like for like
Put each quote into the same checklist and compare the total scope, payment schedule, insurance, warranty and expected programme alongside the price.
